CARDI has embarked on a process aimed at reinforcing its own capacity to generate and disseminate information to a wider range of stakeholders, including the general public. Part of this process was an Internal Sensitization and Training Seminar on Outreach and Communication held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel during 9-11 November 2009. At the end of this seminar it is expected that CARDI Researchers and Technicians, both at the Headquarters and the Country Offices, will have a better understanding of the media and therefore be in a better position to communicate the results of CARDI's work to stakeholders, partners and the general public.
The Institute will also be able to identify and use opportunities and techniques to not only prepare 'media-friendly' materials, but also be better positioned to develop and establish relationships with the media. Dr Kris Rampersad, Media and Literary Consultant, was the workshop facilitator. This training workshop in outreach and communication for CARDI staff comes on the heels of an intense focus on Research Methodology during the previous week, as part of the Institute’s annual planning process for 2010, and in preparation for the Medium Term Plan 2010-2013.
This activity was supported by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) an agency operating within the framework of the African Caribbean and Pacific/European Community (ACP-EC), with a mandate to improve information and communication management.
