CARDI Ministerial Report Presented to Regional Agriculture Ministers at CWA 2026

During the 20th Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) in Trelawny, Jamaica, CARDI convened its high-level Ministerial Meeting with Ministers of Agriculture and heads of delegation from across CARICOM.

The meeting featured the official presentation of CARDI’s Ministerial Report by Executive Director Ansari Hosein, providing regional decision-makers with a comprehensive overview of the Institute’s technical output, applied research programs, and strategic initiatives.

Highlights of the Report:

  • Progress on Import Substitution: Demonstrating field results and commercial scaling potential for key commodities including root crops, corn, legumes, and vegetables.
  • Climate Resilience & Innovation: Updating policy leaders on regional seed bank progress, soil management programs, and water-efficient irrigation deployments.
  • Strengthening Regional Collaboration: Aligning ongoing agricultural research with national food security targets and CARICOM’s 25% by 2025 food import reduction goals.

The interactive session allowed Ministers to review country-specific project impacts and reaffirm shared commitments toward building a sustainable, climate-resilient Caribbean food system.
