TTTGOA Profile

 

The Trinidad and Tobago Tropical Greenhouse Operators Association (TTTGOA) was formed in 2008 and incorporated as a not for profit entity under the laws of Trinidad and Tobago in 2009.

The Trinidad and Tobago Tropical Greenhouse Operators Association (TTTGOA) was formed in 2008 and incorporated as a not for profit entity under the laws of Trinidad and Tobago in 2009. Through consultations with the government and other stakeholders, the TTTGOA attempts to promote and encourage the sustainable development of the greenhouse industry in Trinidad and Tobago. Its first and current President is Mr. Oliver Aqui.

The most common structure utilised consists of a polyethylene covered roof with a split arch design enclosed with viral-proof mesh. They were 12m wide and either 36m or 60m long. Most farmers have single houses.

Initially, crops were grown in the soil, but many farmers have since migrated to soilless culture systems. Sweet peppers, leafy vegetables and tomato are the main crops grown.

The office of the association is currently located at the Auzonville Mall, 11 Eastern Main Road, Tunapuna and can be reached by telephone at 645-9204 extension 34.

The TTTGOA is also a member of the Protected Agriculture Industry Development Committee (PAIDC). The PAIDC is concerned with the development and adoption of the entire range of protected agriculture initiatives, including greenhouses.
